Our History

Croatia House was established to facilitate cultural events that
promote Croatian culture in Australia.

Since its inception in 2017, we have organised a number of events, including two photographic exhibitions at the City of Canada Bay Library, a theatre production of Miro Gavran’s The Doll, and the annual Croatian Film Festival.

In this financial year we proudly delivered the inaugural Croatian Film Festival in NSW at the Ritz Cinema in Randwick, showcasing three contemporary Croatian films, which was extremely well supported by a diverse audience. Our data shows approximately 20% of the audience was of non-Croatian heritage.

Our organisation relies on bringing people together to participate in the arts. Following the film festival, the emergence of COVID-19 in early 2020 presented challenges to our planning. Where we would normally deliver two high quality events that promote of Croatian culture, we needed to plan and react quickly to a changing environment.

Our sponsors are particularly important to us. In 2019-20 we received support from the Croatian Government’s Ministry of Croats Abroad, large corporations such as Podravka, and many small businesses and individuals based in New South Wales. We thank each of them for without their support, our organisation would not achieve our objectives.

I also thank the Croatia House Committee for their tireless work, which is all achieved on a voluntary basis. Our Committee believes the success of our organisation comes from delivering extraordinary and unique events, which bring people together. I am very proud of our team.
